In order to facilitate the processes of definition and adoption of sustainability criteria within the Jatropha sector, the association is planning to develop in the next months the following new Maps and additional Tools:

 

1) “Statistical Maps”: historical and real time generation of Maps based on data provided by users and collected from projects. The maps will allow a clearer understanding of Jatropha-related projects development, agricultural best practices and achieved results.
Data sets: associated food production as percentage of the area cultivated with Jatropha energy crops (%ha/year); net cultivated area with Jatropha (ha/year); Jatropha productivity curve (kg/ha/year); historical variation of local food prices due to the presence of biofuels projects. All data sets will be both at global and country scale.

 

2) New and Upgraded Thematic Maps: conversion of the existing rasters “Rainfall Map” and “Dry months Map” to vectorial KML format; further elaboration of FAO Climwat public data and other data sources for the creation of new thematic maps and data sets with geo statistical method: mean temperatures, min/max temperatures, Meteo, wind, moisture, daily sunshine hours, country risk.

 

3) “Sustainability Mash-up”: merge between “Users Map”, “My Project Map”, “Thematic Maps” in order to stimulate the personal participation of all stakeholders (e.g. registration of field workers) and help to evaluate the sustainability of a project.

 

 

4) Drawing Tool: possibility to draw on the “My Project Map” the exact scheme of plantations plots, intercropping schemes (integration of biofuel production with food production) and facilities (e.g. roads, processing plants, hospitals, etc.) using polygons, lines, points and sketch-up models. Integration with the possibility to upload personal “kml” file with GPS coordinates. All data will be time referenced.

 

 

5) GHG Savings Calculation: collection and elaboration of data through a Life Cycle Assessment approach and calculation of the CO2 emitted all over a specific supply chain.
Data sets: GHG savings from the consumption of biofuel obtained from a specific supply chain.
